Calgary encouraging pet adoption with older crowd

In an effort to encourage older people to adopt typically less-popular mature animals, city bylaw officials are cutting the price for seniors adopting dogs and cats aged seven years and older by as much as 60 per cent.
The Seniors for Seniors program includes the cost to spay or neuter the pet, shots, a microchip and a six-month pet license.
With the discount, a dog will be about $80 and a cat will be about $60.
Some of the benefits of an older pet include a calmer temperament, while allowing seniors an opportunity to get more active and to gain companionship.
