A new poll suggests political divisions in Canada are economically-driven.
The survey conducted for Postmedia News and Global by Ipsos Reid shows the Harper Tories dominate the west, rural Canada, and suburban areas of southern Ontario.
The NDP, meanwhile, boasts strong support in Quebec and urban Ontario.
Ipsos Reid president Darrell Bricker tells Postmedia News this marks a fundamental shift towards a more economically-derived cleavage, combined with a distinct urban/rural divide.
The poll found the Tories would pick up 37 per cent of the vote if an election were to happen now, and the NDP would take 35 per cent.
