The Calgary Stampede will be “stamping” around the world as a part of its 100th anniversary thanks to Canada Post.
The company is issuing two commemorative stamps celebrating Calgary’s pioneer spirit and Western culture in honour of the Stampede centennial.
One stamp features a rodeo horse, while the other depicts a silver and gold belt buckle.
Greg Kabatoff with Canada Post says it’s an honour to be a part of the festivities in their own way.
“A big thing with us is celebrating people, culture, and events in Canada,” explains Kabatoff, “and certainly the 100th anniversary of the Stampeded is major event.”
And the stamps actually come to life through the free ‘Stamps Alive’ app for you smart phone or tablet computer.
You hold the device over the commemorative stamp and it gives you access to an interactive horse you can pet, or a barrel racing game.
Canada Post says the games exist through augmented reality and claim it’s a first for stamps.
