C-Train and van collide in the NE

A man in his 80’s has been rushed to the Foothills Hospital after his vehicle was hit by a C-Train.
Police believe the man was attempting a U-turn at the intersection of 36th street and Whitehorn Drive when he was struck by the northbound train.
The 40 tonne train was travelling approximately 20 kilometres an hour when it was approaching the Whitehorn station. The van was pushed through two lanes of traffic before coming to a stop.
It’s believed judgement error by the driver is the cause of crash.
EMS and fire fighters freed the elderly man from vehicle.
