Improving wildfire conditions in Alberta

40 wildfires burn across the province Saturday, but all of them are under control.

Wildfire Information Officer Whitney Exton tells 660News, the fire situation across the province has been improving over the past few days.

“Part of it is due to our firefighters and the hard work they put in. We’ve also got a little help from mother nature and the cooler weather, and some rain that we’ve seen over the last couple days as well,” Exton adds.

The province lifted many fire bans in forested areas Friday, just in time for the long weekend.

Exton says despite the ban being lifted, campers need to properly extinguish their fires by soaking them, stirring the ashes and then soaking them again.

She adds the vast majority of wildfires are caused by humans this time of year.
