Partial solar eclipse seen near and far

It was quite a sight in the sky in Calgary and around the world for Sunday night’s partial eclipse.
Mark Desy is a local amateur astronomer who first got into astronomy during a full eclipse from 1979 in Estevan, Saskatchewan, which he still has filtration equipment from.
He said s the sight was a great one to see.
“The sun is 93 million miles away on average and the moon is 240,000 miles away and just the total distance involved in the moon covering the sun and it’s just awesome, it just puts you in perspective,” Desy said.
Desy says according to his calculations, the eclipse started at 6:04 p.m. MT and wrapped up 8:18 p.m.
