CP Rail pulls another 2,000 workers off the job as strike continues

CALGARY – Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. says it has taken another 2,000 of its employees off the job.
Those are in addition to the 4,800 represented by the Teamsters who went on strike just after midnight today.
Spokesman Ed Greenberg says the other unionized workers’ services aren’t needed during the work stoppage, so they’re being temporarily laid off.
He says the company expects that number to grow by another 1,400.
Labour Minister Lisa Raitt says she’s getting ready to introduce legislation to force the Teamsters workers _ conductors, engineers and yard workers _ back to work.
She says a prolonged strike could cost the Canadian economy an estimated $540 million per week.
