Single-vehicle rollover leaves man fighting for survival

The 25-year-old man transported to Foothills Medical Centre in a late Friday afternoon single-vehicle rollover on Highway 2 remains in critical condition.

Emergency crews got to the scene just before 5:30 p.m. about 15 kms south of High River, after he lost control, side-swiped a semi and flipped several times before landing upside down in a ditch.

RCMP Sgt. Patricia Nelly said it’s not clear exactly what caused him to lose control.

“Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors, there’s some witnesses believe there may have been a mechanical issue, perhaps with a tire or something like that,” she said. “However that is something that will obviously be part of the investigation conducted by the traffic analyst.”

A dog inside the car was ejected during the rollover, but thankfully suffered no injuries.

The rollover closed Highway 2 in both directions late Friday evening.
