Orphaned grizzlies survive winter

Two young grizzly bears that lost their mother last year have made it through the winter and have been spotted just east of Lake Louise.

Wildlife specialist Hal Morrison tells The Calgary Herald seeing the bears alive gives hope they’ll survive into adulthood.

He says their greatest threat is wolves and other bears, as well as roads and railway tracks.

The mother was killed on the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks last May.

Wildlife specialists have fitted one of the bears with an ear transmitter to track its movements.
