A pilot program that gives sexual assault victims more options is hailed as a major success.
Alberta Health Services launched the Third Option program last April.
It allows victims to freeze evidence of the assault for up to a year while they decide whether to bring their attacker to justice.
According to The Calgary Sun, the 2011 annual report from police shows 58 cases have been referred to the Third Option program, and three of those have been investigated by the Sex Crimes Unit.
