The latest performance report from the province on select surgeries and therapies contains some good news.
Patients needing cataract surgery are now only waiting 35 weeks instead of 47.
A 13 per cent reduction in wait times for radiation therapy is also reported.
The CEO of Alberta Health Services, Dr. Chris Eagle admits some areas still need to be improved, but gains are being made.
Eagle says the hiring of 1,600 more registered nurses and the opening up of 1,000 continuing care beds across the province are taking some the pressure off the system.
AHS also reports an improvement in its most recent emergency department satisfaction survey; however only 45 per cent of patients are being admitted after waiting 8 hours with the target being 60 per cent.
