A research report released today by the United Way of Calgary and Area is taking aim at making real change and doing away with poverty.
United Way President Dr. Lucy Miller says the stars are aligned for community services, corporate Calgary and government to team up and tackle poverty.
“We have a government that’s very focused on moving the province and each of our city’s forward. I think we have all the components we need to really model for the rest of Canada and the rest of the world, how you can win on a social issue,” says Miller.
Today’s report identified meeting basic needs as the most significant barrier for low-income families.
Miller says the social services to do so are already in place here and the focus moving forward is to collaborate on strategies to improve access for low-income families.
