Police have laid charges in a sexual assault in the southwest on Monday night.

Duty Inspector Paul Malchow tells 660News, a Calgary man has been charged in the assault of a 25-year-old woman who was walking along a pathway near Glenmore Landing just before 10 p.m.

“As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old male – Steven Douglas Weiss of Calgary – has been charged with sexual assault. He’s been remanded in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday June 20th.

It’s believed Weiss grabbed the woman from behind, she fought off her attacker who then ran off but was arrested a short time later.

Police do not believe this assault is connected to one that occurred on the weekend on a pathway near Deerfoot Trail SE.
