Residents in the southeast can rest easy after reports of explosives Wednesday night turned out to be road flares.
Police rushed to Penbrooke Meadows just before 6 p.m. after a maintenance worker reported what he believed to be 15 sticks of dynamite in a pail.
Duty Inspector Darren Leggatt tells 660News, the man was cleaning out a garage when he found what he believed to be explosives.
He says, “he did absolutely the right thing by not touching the materials and by calling the police. We set up a perimeter, conducted some local evacuations until our bomb techs could get to the scene and actually confirm what the material was.”
Leggatt says police take these matters very seriously, adding the whole ordeal was over in roughly 45 minutes.
