Flood warning declared in High River

High River residents are getting ready with sand bags, now that the town’s been placed under a flood warning.

Town spokesperson Joan Pletz said the emergency operation centre opened Sunday to help residents prepare if things get worse.

“We have not declared a state of emergency because it’s not at that point now,” she said. “We have very localized flooding in a couple of areas, in our lower lying areas, however, the river has come up significantly due to the rain over the last 24 hours.”

She said they’re putting up some sandbags in the northwest part of town.
