Inn From The Cold reports brisk business

We may not be in the midst of an economic boom, but Inn From The Cold is reporting a disturbing statistic reminiscent of the recent boom-time era.

Despite the warm weather, the shelter says it was over capacity Sunday night, putting up 98 family members including 54 children.

“As an organization, we’re very concerned because know that summer historically has always been our busiest time of year,” Inn From The Cold spokesperson Bonnie Elgie tells 660News. “We’re already stretched to the maximum with our resources and we haven’t even hit our two busiest months of the year.”

Elgie only expects matters to get worse in the coming two months as summer tends to be the season when families make the move to Calgary

“And then once they get here,” she says, “of course many of them don’t anticipate the high rental rates that we currently have in the city and the lack of affordable, and that’s why they end up seeking out Inn From The Cold.”

Elgie says they will never turn anyone away from Inn From The Cold, but when there’s no room at the inn they have to utilize other agencies in the city.
