Businesses must partner with Aboriginal communities to ensure economic prosperity in the future.
The Calgary Chamber of Commerce is out with that message after a year-long speaker series on the topic, capped off with a full report on how to do it.
Ben Brunnen from the Chamber says a few suggestions include having discussions about environmental protection, job creation and protection of traditional lands.
“Business needs to focus on what the community interests are,” says Brunnen. “If there’s a resource project they’re looking to develop, they need to talk to the community and understand what their challenges are and what their vision for success is.”
He says there are over $315-billion in natural resource projects on Aboriginal lands.
