Calgary’s Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team is poised to help comb through the ruins of a collapsed mall in northeastern Ontario, but the offer to assist has been declined, according to The Calgary Sun.
Calgary-based Canada Task Force 2 is one of five teams in the country on permanent standby specializing in disasters like these.
Another of the five, based out of Toronto, is on scene now helping in rescue efforts.
As many as 12 people are thought to be trapped under the collapsed building. There has been one confirmed fatality.
