Calgarians will spend a little more during Centennial Stampede

TD Bank has released its annual Stampede spending intentions survey and the numbers suggest Calgarians are going to open up their wallets and purses a little wider.

Forty-nine per cent plan to shell out up to $500 at the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

Last year when Will and Kate made a royal visit, only 40 per cent were planning to spend more than $500.

Lynzey MacRae, the manager of Corporate and Public Affairs with the TD Bank Group says the numbers are more proof of Calgary’s strong economy.

As for where the money will go, 61 per cent say the bulk of their cash will go toward refreshments, 58 per cent will spend their money on rodeo, party and concert tickets, and 32 per cent are focused on family fun events,

Meanwhile, 11 per cent are planning to gamble it away and another seven per cent say it will be dedicated to client and corporate hosting.

Men also tend to spend more than woman.

TD is urging people to set and stick to a Stampede spending budget, or be prepared for a rude awakening when the credit card bills arrive in late July.
