City crews are replacing 156 dead Brandon Elm trees along Memorial Drive which didn’t make it through the warm, windy winter.
Salt sprayed throughout the winter also has a huge impact on Calgary’s road-level greenery.
The process of removing and replacing the trees with American elms is estimated to cost about $60,000.
According to the Calgary Herald, the city has more than 445,000 trees in groomed parks and boulevards valued at more than $335-million.
Trees range in value from $300 to more than $30,000.
