Legion evolves as membership declines

In the face of declining membership, the Legion is evolving to make ends meet and in the case of Calgary’s No. 1 Legion, that means hosting rock and roll concerts.

Sled Island organizer Shawn Petsche tells The Calgary Herald they’ve rented out the designated historic site downtown on 7 Ave. S.E. since the inaugural 2007 edition of the multi-venue music festival.

He says volunteers from the Legion work with Sled Island volunteers to make the shows possible.

Sled Island ran June 20-23 this year, attracting thousands of music lovers.
