AIDS Calgary is applauding the conversation and issues being brought to light, now that the federal government has announced it will no longer be processing permits for temporary foreign workers in the sex trade.
Katherine Vanderlinden with AIDS Calgary tells 660News, it’s important to protect their rights and safety.
“We’re certainly delighted that this conversation is happening at this time so that we can address the concerns that those experiencing trafficking have.” said Vanderlinden.
She is concerned though, the new measures may make employers look for illegal ways to bring in workers from outside the country to be strippers and massage parlour workers.
