Art and engineering will collide at Stampede’s Family Day

Along with the unusual food at the Stampede, there will also be some unique creatures on site.

Beakerhead, which combines interactive and engineering creativity, will display three large mechanical machines on Sunday for Family Day, including a massive machine spider.

Beakerhead co-founder, Jay Ingram, said the project will have its city-wide kickoff next year.

“Our goal is that, if you’re a Calgarian in September 2013 and no matter where you go in the city each day, you will see something amazing and memorable,” he said.

Ingram adds the goal of the project is to show off what engineering and art can do together and especially what Calgarians are capable of creating.

The machines have been on display throughout this week and were on Stephen Avenue downtown Saturday with Mayor Naheed Nenshi also taking part.
