Parks Canada hiking restrictions in Banff

“You must hike in groups.”
That’s what Parks Canada is telling people who want to enjoy some trails in Banff National Park; it’s considered “bear country” until Thanksgiving.
The seasonal hiking restrictions say people must hike in groups of at least four, and bear spray is recommended.
The group restriction is enforceable by law and covers many popular areas including Moraine Lake and Paradise Valley, where the camp ground is also closed.
A Parks Canada spokesperson tells The Calgary Sun the restrictions are better than the alternative – shutting down the areas completely to human traffic.
