WPCA reacts to Rangeland tragedy

A death in the family; that is how members of the World Professional Chuckwagon Association are reacting to Thursday night’s tragedy on the Rangeland Derby track.
Spokesperson Bill Mellville tells 660News, the various cowboys are trying to look at the positives.
“They spend so much time with these horses, it’s like losing kids,” he said.
“Nobody feels good about that but we can feel fortunate in some ways, I mean, it could have been a lot worse than it was and they made the best of a bad situation.”
Mellville says critics of the sport are not interested in protecting the animals, they just speak out, preying on the emotions of uninformed people.
An autopsy will be performed today on the lead horse which appears to have suffered a fatal medical condition during the race, leading to the tragedy.
