Atco Gas celebrates centennial

As the Stampede wraps up its 100th anniversary celebration, Atco Gas is also marking 100 years since the arrival of natural gas in Calgary.
On July 17th, 1912, a flaring ceremony in the city signaled its official arrival after the first pipeline was built from Bow Island to Calgary.
In a special ceremony Sunday night, Atco lit the cauldron at the top of the Calgary Tower, to share the success of two Calgary institutions as the sun set on the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
Atco designed and built eight cauldrons for the Calgary Olympics, including the Calgary Tower which was the official Olympic flame which burned throughout the 1988 games.
