Calgary police are probing a brutal beating which left a 24-year-old engineering honour student comatose in intensive care.
Brendan Cathery could face permanent brain damage after he was found in a heap early Thursday morning at 9th Ave. and 5th St. S.W.
According to The Calgary Sun, Cathery was last seen leaving a work function at the Chicago Chop House restaurant around 10 p.m. Wednesday on 8th Ave. at 5th St.
His family describes the young man as a smart, street-safe, well-travelled person who has never been in a fight and just bought his first home in the city.
Police are asking any witnesses to come forward.
