Dinner party fire destroys N.W. home

A Sunday evening dinner party at a northwest home quickly turned sour after a fire erupted in the home’s garage.

The blaze started just after 6:30 p.m.; two parked cars inside the garage burned and exploded, spreading the fire.

Within 10 minutes the whole house was engulfed in flames, spreading to neighbouring homes, damaging one and melting side paneling on another.

About a dozen dinner guests helped notify neighbours; fire crews had to call a second alarm, bringing in eight trucks to help douse the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

There were no injuries.
