The Calgary Firefighters Association says its call to censure Calgary’s fire chief has nothing to do with stalled contract talks with the city.
Mark Faires says a lot of things were considered before they decided to draw up a censure motion which will be presented next week in Philadelphia during the international association of firefighters.
The president of the Calgary Firefighters Association says current policies of the department don’t meet industry standards and current response times and staffing levels in the city are putting people lives and property at risk.
Faries hopes their censure motion will be passed and add a little urgency to address response times and staffing levels.
He adds the fact they have been working without a contract for more than a year and a half has nothing to do with their censure motion. There is another round of bargaining set for September.
