Location markers installed along some Calgary pathways

If you are out and about in Calgary, you may have noticed some yellow markers up along a few pathways.
It is part of the Pathway Location Marker Pilot Program. The markers have been installed to help people tell 911 operators where they are, so emergency crews can locate them quicker
“Our goal is to help provide assistance to citizens as efficiently and seamlessly as possible,” says Nina Vaughan, Commander of Public Safety Communications. “Since Calgary has more than 700 kilometres of pathways, it’s not always easy to articulate where you are on our extensive pathway network when you need help.”
There are 200 kilometres of signage along the Bow River in downtown Calgary, as well as Elbow river and Fish Creek pathways located about a kilometre apart.
“Summer is generally the peak time for pathway usage,” says Vaughan. “We wanted to make sure that parks and pathways users were aware of this tool while they are out enjoying the pathways.”
