Huge fire on property west of Calgary

It took fire crews from Rockyview, Cochrane and Redwood Meadows to knock down an enormous blaze west of Calgary Sunday afternoon.

Met with flames 100-feet high and no immediate water supply, firefighters trucked in their water to fight the blaze between Calgary and Cochrane.

As family members waited on the highway below, crews made their way up the private dirt road to the home.

That’s where Rockview Fire Chief Ken McMullen says they were met with a sizable challenge.  “There are five buildings there and three of them were consumed upon arrival, they were well involved, ” said McMullen.

One factor for the size was a number of gas tanks exploding, but the cause of the fire is unknown.

The owner of the home was cooking when he smelled smoke and saw the flames outside.  He escaped with a minor burn.

One firefighter also suffered a minor burn.
