Two dead following separate water accidents

A pair of lives claimed in separate water activities Sunday.

The first one involved a 35 year old Calgary man succumbing to his injuries after the raft he and his four friends were riding in down the Highwood River eight kilometres west of Longview descended a waterfall and flipped in the fast moving river.

The second involved a 20 year old man jumping from the Highway 1A bridge that crosses the Ghost Lake Reservoir.

Emergency crews responded to the scenes where both men were found in critical, life-threatening condition; Efforts to revive both men were unsuccessful.

The 35 year old Calgary man was wearing a helmet and life jacket at the time of the accident while officials don’t believe the death of the 20 year old was the result of a suicide attempt.
