No way to predict mudslide on Hwy1

There is no way to predict another mudslide like the one motorists saw Friday on the Trans Canada Highway near Banff.
If you are heading out west, you are being advised to drive prepared with supplies and stay informed.
The Operations Manager for Highways in Banff National Park, Douglas Kerr says despite the recent mudslide people are still hitting the road to Banff and beyond.
“There is no decrease in traffic, we have very high volumes of traffic down the Trans Canada and obviously the very highest in July and August,” said Kerr.
He says while mudslides do happen, the one Friday was unusual for that area. “I’ve been with Parks for 29 years and I’ve never seen that kind of event in that location.”
Kerr adds that all his staff can do is monitor the situation and react swiftly if it happens again.
