Record snow and rain damage mountain park playgrounds

Officials with Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks are scrambling to assess the damage left behind following a record snowfall and three times the regular amount of rain in June.
Omar McDadi tells The Calgary Sun the northern part of Kootenay suffered the most damage with pathways, campgrounds and roads and bridges impacted.
McDadi says they are using the term “once-in-a-generation year” to describe the wet mess.
No word yet on how much it’s going to cost to facilitate repairs, with as many as 10 bridges damaged.
Campground availability has also been impacted with the Chancellor Peak campground in Yoho National Park expected to remain closed for the rest of the summer tourist season.
Those thinking of checking out the Paint Pots off Highway 93 south need to be prepared to hike in and out; roughly 6.5 kilometres round-trip.
The wet weather has also impacted other areas around the province, with both Alberta Parks and Parks Canada urging people to check their websites before heading out.
An update on the situation is expected to be issued ahead of the August long weekend.
