New race facility proposed near Airdrie

Race fans in Calgary and area have been itching for a new facility to get their engines revving since the closure of Race City in October.

Now a group is stepping up with a proposed facility northeast of Airdrie which would encompass 500 acres and include a 4.5 km race track, a 2.5 km training track, and a 1/4-mile drag strip.

The facility would be called Rockyview Motorsports Park.

So far 18 people have thrown money into the pot, calling themselves ‘the founders, for the $30-million development.

Dominic Young, President of Rockyview Motorsports says the deal to purchase the land, all of which is privately owned, is close to being finalized.
