Trans-Canada celebrates 50 years

Happy birthday to the Trans-Canada Highway; former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker officially opened the highway to traffic, 50 years ago Monday.

The opening of the longest national highway in the world meant Canadians could drive coast to coast cross-country.

Award-winning journalist Mark Richardson will celebrate the opening where the official opening ceremony happened in B.C. at Rogers Pass in Revelstoke.

Richardson has been recording stories while travelling the iconic route this summer.
