Employees at the Trico Family Wellness Centre on Anderson Road were rushed out of the building after high levels of chlorine were discovered in a mixture room and hazmat crews took over before the centre opened its doors Tuesday morning.
The Centre is home to summer daycamps attended by about 300 kids each week.
Those kids and their parents were turned away by police blocking the parking lot, leaving some parents scrambling for alternate plans.
One mom admits, it was disappointing.
“A little, yes. There are things to do which can be done easier without a child around,” she says.
Her son on the other hand, seems okay with it and says he just wants to play video games.
There were no injuries or respiratory issues resulting from the leak. The building locked down until emergency personnel managed to clear the air.
