Distracted driving tickets up in Calgary

Despite months of warning and stiff fines, more and more driver’s are getting caught for talking, texting, and not paying attention on the road.
The latest stats from City Police show the number of tickets handed out for violating the distracted driving law has doubled since October 2011.
It gets worse.
From October 2011 until July 1st of this year, over 4,200 tickets were handed out for everything from using a laptop or programming a GPS to sharing the front seat with a pet.
While the bulk were for talking, texting or emailing, CPS issued 100 fines to drivers using handheld devices like iPods, cameras, and DVD players.
