Alberta’s severe weather event count is way up

On average during the summer months, there are 80 severe weather events in the province, the unofficial count so far this year is 187.
Bill McMurtry with Environment Canada says the sky has been very active across Wildrose country.
McMurtry says hailstorms make up the bulk of the activity, accounting for about 66 per cent of the storms.
He says the number of storms is at it’s highest level since they started tracking back in 1991 and the summer isn’t over yet.
Not only is the storm count up, but so is the temperature running one or two degrees above normal averages.
Back in 2002, only 20 severe weather events during the summer were recorded in Alberta.
