Standoff over following northeast shooting

A nearly five hour stand off has ended at a home in Coventry Hills.
Police surrounded the residence in the 100 block of Coville Close at around 4:30 Sunday morning, trying to arrest suspects after a shooting in Westwinds in the city’s northeast.
Shots were fired at around 1:30 a.m. between two S-U-V’s, one person was hurt in the exchange.
The tactical team and negotiators surrounded a tan coloured home for a few hours.
Three men were arrested right away, the fourth suspect shortly after and the fifth suspect was taken into custody at around 10 Sunday morning.
Duty Inspector Paul Stacey says he was arrested without incident. He adds detectives have a lot of investigating to do, including trying to figure out the motive.
“I think they have their work cut out for them as far as doing interviews and the like. They have some work to do back at the scene as well as scanning the areas for video cameras and the like, to see if there’s any video footage of the incident as it occured,” Stacey says.
Janelle only lives a few doors down, she tells 660News she can’t believe it.
“Well my sister went to let out my dogs this morning and she comes into my rooms and says there’s cops in our backyard and I said, oh! It’s a pretty quiet neighbourhood,” Janelle says.
Bullet holes are visible on the targeted S-U-V. Police are investigating if any rounds his any businesses or homes.
Police believe the incident wasn’t gang related, but did not rule out drugs.
Stacey says some of the suspects are known to police and it’s believed they all know each other.
Charges are pending at this time.
