Quebec cashing in on Equalization Payments

Billions of dollars in equalization payments to Quebec and since 2007, none at all to Newfoundland and Labrador.

This year alone, Quebec will received $7.4-billion of the over $15-billion handed out to six provinces, which is by far the most this year, followed by Ontario with $3.3-billion in equalization payments.

The point of this Federal program is for the ‘have’ provinces to help out the ‘have nots.’ Among the more stable provinces are Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatachewan and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The last time those Easterners received an equalization payment was in 2007.

As for Alberta, just because we are rolling in energy-dough and don’t qualify, doesn’t man we are left out to dry.

We still get about $3.7-billion from the Canada Health Transfer and Canada Social Transfer.
