Organizers of Calgary’s Gay Pride festival say Alison Redford will be the first Alberta premier to attend and acknowledge the event.
Spokeswoman Jessica Dollard says the premier also plans to speak at an address following the parade on September 2nd.
Redford has tweeted that she is pleased to be attending the parade.
The parade begins at Olympic Plaza at noon and will wind its way to Shaw Millennium Park for the Pride Street Festival that begins at 12:30 and runs until 6 p.m.
The public is welcome to attend.
Redford became the first premier to attend Edmonton’s gay pride festival in June.
Calgary’s Pride Week runs from August 25th to September 3rd.
