Calgary school board pays to fix image

The city’s public school board is hoping some new additions to the media relations department will improve its image.

The Calgary Board of Education is cutting back on communications staff by $100,000 this year, but will still pay three times as much as the city’s separate school district.

The CBE will spend $2.7-million on 29 full-time staff, compared to the Catholic school board’s $464,000 on four full-time staff.

A spokesman tells The Calgary Herald the board’s brand is suffering and the new hires are needed to improve feedback from parents and students.
