Record crowd expected at Calgary’s Pride Parade

It will be a record-breaking year for Calgary’s Pride Parade.
Organizers are bracing for the most parade entries ever and the biggest crowd.
Pride Calgary President Dallas Barnes says the event is growing incredibly fast.
“When I started five years ago we had 2,000 people watching, and this year we’re anticipating 25,000 to 30,000. We’re ecstatic by the way it’s going and it just goes to show that Calgary is really embracing diversity,” says Barnes.
Also for the first time, a sitting Alberta Premier will attend the event and address the crowd.
Alison Redford is traveling to Calgary specifically for the event before she returns to Edmonton for the 100th anniversary of the Alberta Legislature.
The parade starts at noon on Sunday at Olympic Plaza, marches west along 8th Avenue, and ends at Shaw Millennium Park where the street festival begins.
It’s the pride weekend in Calgary, which also includes Saturday’s Dyke March in Mission.
