Summer may be winding down but the trains are still rolling along in Nanton.
The Big Sky Garden Railway at Ultimate Trains, south of Calgary, still be chugging for a while yet.
Thousands of train fans big and small are drawn to the town each year.
The tiny train rides and the seven-thousand square foot garden and picnic area are in action until Thanksgiving, though the store itself stays open year round.
The attraction was created by Tony and Joan Scheiwiller 12 years ago.
“Blame it on him!” says Joan.
“It was always my hobby, since I was 15 years old. I grew up about a hundred yards away from the main line between Zurich and Munich,” says Tony.
There are thousands of models and it takes them nearly two months each year to redo the design entirely.
“That’s the charm of it all and I wouldn’t have it any other way because after six months of being open, playing with it the same way, we need a change,” says Joan.
