The return of the Avro Arrow

Canada’s Air Force is pushing for a blast from the past.

The CF-150 Avro Arrow is being put forward as an alternative to the F-35 Stealth Fighter Jets.

One of Canada’s top soldiers is championing the project.

Major General Lewis Mackenzie tells The National Post the Arrow’s basic design is perfect for Canada’s needs, and exceeds any current fighter jet.

The advanced all weather Avro Arrow was designed in the 1950’s but never built.

A proposal suggests the plane can fly higher, soar twice as fast and comes at a much lower cost.

The program would total $11.73 billion compared to the $16 billion cost of the F-35 jets.
