Dangerous offender status considered for man convicted of assault

A man convicted of repeated assaults on his roommate is undergoing a dangerous offender assessment, as he faces charges he assaulted a Calgary Remand Centre guard.
Dustin Paxton’s trial has been delayed while he receives a psychiatric evaluation.
Paxton was convicted of multiple accounts of aggravated and sexual assault that hospitalized his roommate in 2010.
He’s still awaiting a sentence.
The Calgary Sun reports crown prosecutors pushed for consideration of dangerous offender status, saying Paxton committed daily extreme and unpredictable violence against the victim.
His trial on assault charges against a peace officer will now resume September 21.
