A 48-year-old man is in life threatening condition in hospital in Grande Prairie after being attacked Tuesday morning by a grizzly bear near Swan Hills.
According to The Edmonton Sun, the man was hunting alone in a remote area about 220 kilometres northwest of Edmonton when he was attacked by the bear sometime before 10 a.m.
It’s believed he was attacked from behind; the victim managed to fire his gun and the bear was scared off.
He then reportedly walked five kilometres from where he was attacked to find cell phone coverage to call for help.
STARS was dispatched from Grande Prairie after the man was taken by ATV’s and a ground ambulance to a safe area.
