CBE rejects lunchtime supervisor ratio

Some Calgary Board of Education staff members are expressing concern that school kids are not getting enough supervision at lunch.
In many Calgary public schools, one lunch monitor is expected to look over 50 kids at a time.
The CBE has decided not to impose a strict ratio of lunch monitors to students, arguing it’s the quality of the supervision that’s important.
But the union that represents lunch workers says it’s been an ongoing worry.
The board tells The Calgary Herald they’re standardizing their policies, they’ve written a new handbook and are hiring a new lead lunchtime supervisor that will travel to schools that need help.
