As many as 1,400 delegates from 40 countries are in Calgary this week for the bi-annual International Pipeline Conference.
The conference at the downtown Hyatt Hotel will focus on energy pipelines and ways to improve their reliability.
“Over a 99 per cent reliability rate,” Conference co-chair Ziad Saad tells 660News about the current controversy surrounding environmental safety issues with pipelines. “But this conference demonstrates that even with a 99 per cent record, you don’t sit on your hands. You’re always trying to improve and do things better.”
Saad says the conference will cover the gamut when it comes to pipelines.
“It brings together engineering,” he ads. “It brings together regulators, academics, practitioners. Really the whole range of people that are involved in the technical aspects, and safety in particular, of pipelines. As far as the conference substance, there’s over 13 tracks. And they cover every technical aspect you can think of. It’s really a technical engineering conference.”

Saad notes the 99 per cent reliability rate figure for pipelines is a performance stat for Canada, not a global rate.
